Since 1982, the family-owned company Kammerer GmbH, based in Baden-Württemberg, has been developing and manufacturing machines that make life easier for tradespeople on construction sites.
As a young man, Rolf Kammerer worked in his father’s plastering business when the idea for his first machine came to him. He was laboriously working on scratch plaster by hand when the spark of inspiration struck. The Chameleon was born—first in the inventor’s mind, then on the drawing board, and eventually in production and series manufacturing. By 1982, the device was ready for market launch and quickly gained traction under the brand name Rokamat (Rolf Kammerer Machinery Technology).
In a short time, Rolf Kammerer sold his machines for painters, plasterers, and finishing trades across Germany, Switzerland, and Eastern Europe. His innovative concept of decoupling the motor from the hand tool convinced users. The advantages of this system are clear: the tools are lightweight, yet there are no compromises on motor power. The powerful drive motor is worn on the belt.
As the Rokamat brand established itself in the market, Rolf Kammerer remained active. He never forgot his roots: the machines he designed were meant to simplify the daily work of tradespeople. In the following years, he developed many more devices, bringing them to production readiness with his team in Remchingen near Pforzheim. Following the all-rounder Chameleon with its counter-rotating discs, the next innovation was the PFM, a pole-mounted plaster processing machine for working on gypsum plaster and lime-cement plasters.
In 1990, the Chameleon gained a useful partner: the backpack vacuum cleaner RVC-L, which ensures maximum freedom of movement while reliably keeping the work environment dust-free. Today, many tradespeople wouldn’t want to do without this practical helper, especially when sanding ETICS panels or working on scaffolding. Additionally, the Chameleon’s accessory range is continuously expanded. A bestseller, for example, is the wallpaper removal set, which effortlessly removes old wallpaper.
A particularly important addition to the product range reached market maturity in 2002: a power sander for drywall and aggressive sanding. In the following years, the renovation sander Gex and the turbo sander Gecko Rapid followed. In 2016, the long-neck sander Heron completed the Rokamat sander lineup.
The plaster processing segment was also consistently expanded to meet the needs of the trades: alongside the long-standing favorite PFM, today’s lineup includes the PFM W with water injection, the PFM WT with a water tank, and the battery-powered PFM C—true to the company slogan “easy working.”
The company founder recognized early on the demand for cordless machines on construction sites. Since 2014, a steadily growing battery-powered line has complemented the portfolio. Today, there are battery-powered machines for cutting and sanding ETICS, for plaster processing, and for compacting and smoothing concrete.
Since December 2018, Rokamat has been a proud CAS partner. CAS (Cordless Alliance System) is a cross-manufacturer battery system from leading power tool brands. CAS utilizes the industry’s most powerful battery system, with over 30 years of battery expertise. Meanwhile, more than 450 machines from over 45 brands are compatible with the system, and more brands are joining all the time. This makes the battery system user-friendly, cost-saving, and sustainable.
To this day, Kammerer remains a true family business.
In 2014, Rolf Kammerer’s son, Dominic Kammerer, joined the management team—having previously worked for years in the company’s design department.
All Rokamat machines are guaranteed “designed, assembled & made in Germany.” Today, Rokamat machines are sold worldwide. You can find the latest news about Rokamat on all social media platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram. Additionally, you can watch numerous application videos on the Rokamat YouTube channel.
New projects are already in development. So, in the future, the message on construction sites around the globe will continue to be:
Rokamat – that’s “easy working” with “made in Germany” quality.
